Cowl Fiberglass Work – Part 5

Fine sanded upper cowl with 240 grit to see if latest application of micro filled in low spots; overall looks good. Will try to use some high build primer to help with pin holes but overall upper cowl looks good. Reinstalled both upper and lower cowls onto aircraft then pilot drilled mounting holes through upper and lower cowl halves. Removed cowl alignment spacer from prop hub and verified cowl would hold position. Updrilled all 3/32″ holes (including hinge holes) to #30 and removed cowl halves. Deburred mount hinges and sanded scarf joint on aft edge of lower cowl for slight edge extension. Decided to omit lower exhaust tunnel lips for now to save on cooling drag (and because additional cooling exhaust is provided via side scoops. Reattached lower cowl and prepped rear edges for micro work. Applied stiff micro mixture to aft edge of cowl over packing tape to prevent epoxy from sticking to fuselage or hinge halves.
