Brake System Assembly – Part 3

Manufactured master cylinder mount components out of aluminum sheet and angle stock. Because the B-Model plans do not have provisions for a center mounted brake lever, used “sport trainer” plan set from the legacy plans for part dimensions. Also substituted two 0.125″ spacer plates on each side of the mounts rather than one 0.25″ piece due to availability. Cut parts from stock and pilot drilled holes per plans. Mocked up everything together then made custom cable bracket to attach parking brake cable to. Updrilled brake ball valve handle to accept standard cable nut. After verifying part alignment, removed center square tube from forward fuselage floor and riveted master cylinder brackets and spacers with CCP-48 pull rivets. Reinstalled center tube onto forward fuselage floor then drilled and clecoed master cylinder brackets to floor. Attached fittings and plug to master cylinder with Teflon paste and installed master cylinder into bracket. Plumbed the final line from the ball valve to the brake tee and tightened all fittings. Installed parking brake cable on left side of panel and routed it to the custom cable bracket. Secured cable jacket with plane clamp and attached cable to ball valve with cable nut. Ops check good on parking brake cable. Wrapped brake handle with electrical tape for now and installed handle onto master cylinder; might re-design handle in future for better ergonomics. Removed tires and replaced brake puck seals with new o-rings due to previous installation error.
